Scam Prevention
Attention! ( Buyer’s & Seller’s )

Be smart about buying or selling a vehicle. Please read & be aware of the known scams that are out there.
Selling or Buying a car you find online is a lot like selling or buying a car through a classified ad in a newspaper or magazine. In either case, be smart about it.

Some things you should remember when Selling your car are: * Make sure the buyer's contact information is correct * Be curious of buyers willing to purchase your car unseen, Especially buyers located overseas. * Verify the buyer's street address and phone number. * Do not transfer the title until you have verify that a certified check or other is genuine. Before you deposit a certified check, verify authenticity with the issuing bank, not just your bank. Make sure the account contains sufficient funds and the issuing bank guarantees payment on the check. Also remember it may take a week or more for the check to clear. It hasn't cleared just because your bank has accepted it and credited your account. * Always beware of over payment or other complicated payment schemes. Don't agree to any plan where the buyer asks to send a check for more than the sale price and requests that the seller refund the difference. Also be suspicious of any buyer who proposes making payment through a friend or agent of the buyer.

Some things you should know when Buying a car are: Know the car's market value. Be suspicious of a vehicle priced significantly below market value. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. * Be suspicious of a seller that is in a hurry to sell the car and wants the deposit or full amount right away. You can get a vehicle history report. * If the vehicle is near by schedule an appointment to see the car and inspect it or have an mechanic inspect it. * Always confirm contact information before you send payment, verify the seller's Name, street address, phone number, area code, zip code, ect. all should match up. * Always make sure you receive the correct tittle or bill of sale after purchase.

One of the typical known scams. Basically this scam deals with a buyer (usually Overseas or in U.S.) agrees to your asking price and then wants to pay for your car by a Cashier's Check in excess of your cars asking price and then asks you to wire transfer the difference back to them. It is a scam and they are using fake or stolen checks. You cash the check and send back the excess
money. Then your bank says the check was fake and you lose the excess money amount you sent back. Most of these scams, the buyer states its for a client of his. (know as a third party scam). This is just a brief summary of a scam. There are many variations of this scam. They will try to be very convincing in different ways. Be aware and don't be fooled. Always do some research on the internet for scams.

Another know scam for buyers. Basically the scam artists steal photos and ad descriptions off of other companies websites and post them in there own ad with a very low asking price. They will most likely claim that they are in dire financial need or they are moving or something to that effect. What happens is they intend to pocket the deposit or purchase price and your never here back from them. Be suspicious and remember if the deal sound to good to be true, it probably is.

Do your research about a suspicious buyer or seller. There are many website you can check out for scams such as:
